Yogi govt directs SDMs and Tehsildars to reside only in their assigned tehsils
Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates instructed to ensure strict adherence to this order
Lucknow, July 24: In a significant move to address public concerns and ensure timely resolution of issues, the Yogi government has issued a directive requiring Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Tehsildars stationed in various tehsils across the state to reside only in their respective tehsils where they are posted.
The aim of this order is to ensure that Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars spend the majority of their time in their respective tehsils, actively addressing public concerns and working to resolve issues within the designated timeframe.
This initiative is expected to enhance both the officers’ and the government’s public image. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh has issued instructions to all Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates to enforce this order strictly.
According to the Chief Secretary’s instructions to Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates, timely resolution of public issues is a top priority for the government.
He emphasized that for the government to uphold its commitment to good governance, it is crucial that the tehsil-level administration remain alert and efficient. To support this objective, the Tehsildar and Sub-Divisional Magistrate must reside in their respective tehsils, he pointed out.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary has stressed that it is the primary responsibility of District Magistrates and Divisional Commissioners to ensure that all duties assigned under the Tehsil Revenue Administration are effectively carried out. They are tasked with ensuring that Tehsildars and Sub-Divisional Magistrates live in the tehsils where they are posted.
“District Magistrates must provide a certificate within 7 days via email confirming this. Additionally, the government will conduct surprise inspections to verify compliance. If the Tehsildar and Sub-Divisional Magistrate are found not residing in their tehsil, strict action will be taken against them. The responsibility of the District Magistrate will also be assessed. Strict adherence to this order is mandatory”, the Chief Secretary stated further.
